Five Things You Have to Know Before Adopting A Puppy

In the United States, it is very common to see people walk dogs at weekends or children play with dogs in backyards. In terms of a 2020 research about pet ownership statistics by the American Pet Product Association, 38.4% of American households owned at least one dog, and the number is steadily increasing in 2021 and the next few years. In another word, more and more folks are going to adopt dogs in the coming days. If you are one of them, here is something you have to seriously consider before you do it.

1. Meal Planning Is Crucial

Feeding a young puppy is a challenge. You have to feed them twice to three times a day. A lot of people think they can just free feed their puppies, leaving a bowl of food, and the puppy will go to have their meal when they feel hungry. No! your puppy will finish it up in minutes and become obese. What else you can find is your house gets covered in poop.  You need to know the appropriate amount of food for different sizes of dogs, feed them twice to three times a day, helping them establish a good eating habit.

2. Frequent Walking Puppies Are Required

Frankly speaking, if you are a homebody, stop thinking about adopting a puppy. Walking a puppy is not easy feat but is extremely important. Doesn't matter if it's raining or snowing, you still have to go outside to walk your dog. As the puppies have lots of energy, you are going to be outside a lot. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes, half an hour, one and two hours, and even more. When walking your puppies you may come off rude to other dog owners, because you can just let your puppy play on leash with other pups. It's going to turn into troubles like leashes are going to get tangled, someone is going to get bitten. You need to train your puppy to be well-behaved.

3. Keep Your Puppies Clean

Dogs always get dirty. As positive and energetic puppies, there is no way to stay like a good boy. They run around in backyards, lay down in mud, roll around in dirt. No one can stop them from doing these. What you can do is clean them with specific pet cleaners, no human products on your dogs. After that, dry and brush their fur, trim their toenails.

4. Puppies Are Like Babies

Basically the puppies are kind of like babies. After you have a dog, you need to take care of him, spend time playing with them. You may find you have a lot of dog toys and dog things everywhere in your house. When you plan to have a long travel, you have to bring all their supplies with you, like a dog diaper bag, food, bowls, and more.

Some folks may be busy at work and get home late. At the moment you open the door, you probably see your puppy feels sad and lonely curling up at a corner. So you need extra time to stay with him, check that if he gets sick or upset. Sometimes you need to even get more prepared to hide something he likes in a closet, giving your puppy a big surprise!

Does it sound like taking care of a little baby? Yes, actually it is.

5. Extra Expense

Besides paying for all kinds of pet supplies, dog vaccination fees are essential. Unfortunately if your dogs get sick your bills are going to ramp up. So do some basic care to keep your dog healthy is very important.

After knowing all these things, you think you’re well prepared, then go adopt a dog. You will not regret having a dog, especially when you pet him like a parent, cuddle him on a couch, and play games with him. That's called happiness in life.
